uner Special: Brabus Boosts Mercedes-Benz GL

EDMUNDS INSIDE NEWS, OTTROP, Germany — Brabus, the longtime Mercedes-Benz tuning specialist, is offering performance-enhancing packages for the new GL320 CDI and GL500.
The 5.5-liter gasoline V8 is available in various stages of tune, starting with Brabus' B8 kit that boosts output to 419 horsepower. With the ultimate package, Brabus enlarges the displacement to 6.1 liters, hiking output to 462 hp and torque to 454 pound-feet. With the latter engine, the GL gallops from zero to 60 mph in less than 6.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 158 mph.

The diesel V6 can be massaged to deliver 272 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from zero to 60 mph is trimmed to less than 8.9 seconds, and top speed climbs to 135 mph.

Brabus offers a full range of go-fast pieces for the GL-Class, including a stainless-steel sport exhaust, high-performance brakes and a control module that lowers the ride height of the Airmatic air suspension. Z-rated Pirelli and Yokohama tires can be matched with Brabus alloy wheels in sizes ranging from 18 to 22 inches.

Aero body kits include a front fascia with air inlets and foglamp inserts, rocker panels with integrated entrance lights, a rear fascia with integrated diffuser and cutouts for the sport exhaust system, plus a spoiler for the rear liftgate.

Interior enhancements include full leather trim, sport steering wheel, custom consoles, and stainless-steel door sills with an illuminated Brabus logo.
