BELVIDERE -- Belvidere's Chrysler Plant makes a diesel version of the Dodge Caliber to be sold internationally, and it seems to be doing better abroad than domestically.

According to Alex Gary of the Rockford Register Star, sales of the Caliber are 75,791 in the U.S. compared to 110,370 for Dodge Neons sold through the first 10 months of 2005. The Neon was also made in Belvidere.

But according to Gary, DaimlerChrysler is using the Caliber to launch the Dodge brand worldwide and international sales are doing much better. The company sold 12,175 Calibers to buyers outside America through October. Gary says that's more than the full-year international sales totals of the Neon for the years 2002-2005.
