With over 12,000 medallion taxi cabs in New York, Hybrid Technologies chose New York as its inaugural location. The long range, highway speed lithium full-sized passenger vehicle has won over the toughest of critics, including the general public. City Hall has requested more taxis, and a significant interest from medallion owners looking to benefit from reduced medallion fees, federal / state emissions initiatives and grants.

Hybrid placed the vehicle into service following unanimous approval from the City of New York Taxi and Limousine Commission under Article 14. The taxi has received acclaim from media, the public and President George W. Bush during the initial days of its operation.
