Caliber earns more top marks for safety

Alex GaryROCKFORD REGISTER STAR BELVIDERE — The Belvidere-built Dodge Caliber earned more high marks for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2007 Dodge Caliber received the top rating — five stars — for protecting the driver and rear passenger in a side impact collision, the company said Monday.

In May, the Caliber also received five stars from the NHTSA for protecting the driver and passenger in head-on collisions.

That means the Caliber received top ratings in four of the five safety tests by the NHTSA. It received four stars in rollover testing.

The Caliber is equipped with several safety and security technologies, including high-strength steel structure, all-wheel-drive capability, electronic stability program with traction control, driver and front passenger air bags, side-curtain airbags and a driver’s side inflatable knee blocker.
