8.3.1917 The original General Motors Company founded as a New Jersey firm in 1908 is legally dissolved after all of its stock had been acquired by the newly formed General Motors Corporation

8.3.1938 Samuel L. Davis is elected President of Hupmobile

8.3.1955 The American Automobile Association abolishes its Contest Board, leaving United States car racing without a governing body

8.3.1964 Racer Carel de Beaufort dies at age 30 three days after his Porsche had crashed at the Nurburgring circuit during a practice run for the German Grand Prix
