DaimlerChrysler Says Chrysler Unit Isn't for Sale (Update1)

Steven Bodzin |Oct. 25 (Bloomberg) -- DaimlerChrysler AG, the world's fifth-largest carmaker, said it isn't planning to sell its Chrysler Group unit.

DaimlerChrysler was responding to coverage and comments today following its third-quarter earnings conference call, the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based company said in a statement.

Asked about a potential sale of Chrysler, Bodo Uebber, DaimlerChrysler's chief financial officer, ``refused to answer,'' said Jason Vines, DaimlerChrysler's vice president for communications. ``You don't want to get into speculative statements if you're a CFO. You can answer one and you're on a slippery slope.''

he company released its statement to reiterate its earlier position that it wasn't selling the unit, which makes vehicles such as the PT Cruiser and the Sebring, Vines said in a telephone interview today.
