DETROIT NEWS - - Mercedes-Benz will launch a competitor to BMW's X3 and Audi's upcoming Q5 when its all-new GLK arrives in 2008 as an '09 model.
The compact SUV will share underbody components with the next-generation C-Class range that debuts in 2007. Design cues, however, will be shared with the larger GL-Class.
European press reports say the GLK will be offered with a range of four-cylinder and V-6 gas and diesel engines. A seven-speed automatic transmission will be standard.
Also said to be in the pipeline is a high-performance GLK 55 AMG. All models are expected to be assembled in Germany.
