eep goes commando

Jeep's seven-seater Commander is now available with a turbodiesel powerplant and DCSA has added comprehensive 3-year maintenance plans to new Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge models.

Commander (click here to read our launch report) utilises the existing 3,0-litre V6 from the Grand Cherokee range. The common rail turbodiesel unit comes equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger and four valves per cylinder configuration to produce 160 kW and peak torque of 510 N.m from 1 600 to 4 000 r/min.

This, according to Chrysler SA, should provide the turbodiesel Commander with performance similar to that of its Hemi V8-powered model, but with fuel consumption that rivals that of smaller models.

In the Commander, the 3,0-litre CRD engine is mated with a five-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Range Select allowing for automatic or manual shifts through the sequential gearbox.

The turbodiesel is available in Limited and Sport derivatives and prices for the additions to the Commander range are:
3,0l CRD Limited R519 900
3,0l CRD Sport R439 900

The large SUV range is now also covered by a three-year/100 000 km warranty and a full maintenance plan for three years or 100 000 km.

Furthermore, the warranty and full maintenance plan has been extended to all Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge models within the DCSA stable.
