U.S. to get SLR McLaren Roadster

The Mercedes SLR McLaren roadster is expected to cost more than $500,000 when it is available in the U.S. this fall.

April Wortham | Automotive News / May 7, 2007 - 1:00 amMercedes-Benz said Friday that it will offer the SLR McLaren sports car as a roadster. U.S. deliveries of the model, to be built at McLaren's factory in Woking, England, will begin in the fall.

The price will be announced in August and probably will top $500,000, said Rob Moran, a spokesman for Mercedes-Benz USA LLC. The coupe is priced at $452,750, including shipping. Mercedes sold 141 units of the coupe in the United States last year, Moran said.

The SLR McLaren roadster is powered by a supercharged 5.5-liter, 617-hp AMG V-8 engine and has a top speed of 207 mph, Mercedes says.
