Chryslers 300C Touches Down in China

Chrysler

China Gets a Taste of Modern American Luxury

Chryslers image of modern American luxury is quickly making its way around the globe. After being met with resounding success in North America, Europe was next in line to get a full dose of HEMI action. Now, the ultra-slick but imposing 300C luxury sedan has touched down in China. Chrysler has big hopes for the 300 in China, where bold, in-your-face styling is synonymous with wealth and luxury. With its short overhangs, tiny decklid and menacing looking front end, its sure to be a success. This heavy-hitting full-size sedan will not only be sold in China, but will also be assembled locally to expand the Chrysler nameplate in the rest of Asia.

As with the Austrian-built European-market cars, all 300s, including those powered by lesser V6 engines have the letter "C" as a suffix to the name. Buyers will be offered a choice of three different engines, an entry-level 190-hp 2.7-lite rV6 mated to a four-speed automatic with AutoStick manual mode, a 250-hp 3.5-liter "High Output" V6 with a five-speed automatic and AutoStick, and the renowned 345-hp 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with MDS cylinder deactivation and a five-speed auto. The European Mercedes-Benz-sourced CRD turbodiesel engine, the 425-hp hotrod SRT-8, and the all-wheel drive variants will not be offered.

Every model in the 300C lineup is extremely well equipped with a very lengthy standard features list. Even the most basic models include leather-trimmed heated seats, a power-adjustable tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, six-disc CD system with rear seat DVD entertainment, a multi-function steering wheel with Bluetooth handsfree communication, and parking assist. Thats an impressive array, especially for the most basic model. Also standard are 18-inch chrome-plated alloy wheels and HID xenon headlamps, which will ensure that every 300 that rolls onto Chinese streets looks as good as our own range-topping model.

The suspension, steering system and wheel and tire package of the car has also been tweaked for Chinese customers. Rather than the softer setting of the North American market car, Orient-bound 300Cs get a setup tuned for high-speed ride and handling. All cars also get standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, plus ESP stability control.

Chinese-market 300Cs are built at the Beijing-Benz DaimlerChrysler production facility. The plant, which recently underwent significant upgrades to accommodate the full-size Chrysler sedan as well as Mercedes-Benzs top-selling E-Class luxury sedan, re-opened its doors on September 15th, 2006. In addition to these two luxury vehicles, the Beijing facility builds the Jeep 2500, which is modernized version of the antiquated Cherokee (pre-Liberty), as well as the Jeep 4000/4700, which is the previous generation Grand Cherokee. Despite severed ties with Mitsubishi, the plant also produces the current generation Outlander and the old Montero Sport for sales in China.
